Prescription Benefits
Employee Testimonial: “I am a type two diabetic who takes two types of insulin. I received a call today from a Pharmacist at Express Scripts telling me there were some inaccuracies with the prescription I sent to them and requested I contact my Doctor. The Doctor put on the prescription that I was to take between 30 and 70 units of insulin per meal, however the insulin pens only come in units up to 60.  I was very grateful that Express Scripts found this discrepancy because it could have affected my blood sugar levels.  I was astonished that they would go out of their way to call me about this and be proactive about it because, like I said it could have affected my blood sugar levels and subsequently my health in general.”
How does my High Deducible Health Plan work with my Express Scripts benefits?

The HDHP has no copays, which means that all charges are subject to deductible and coinsurance. This includes prescription drugs. Be sure to use the resources made available by Express Scripts, such as My Rx Choices, or consult with Health Advocate, to review your current medications, as you may find more cost-effective alternatives to minimize your out-of-pocket costs.  Further, there are a number of common maintenance medications that are considered preventive, which are available for only a $12 (retail) or $24 (mail order) cost.

2020 Preventative Medication List
When you enroll in one of the medical plan options, you are automatically provided with prescription benefits through Express Scripts

Your Express Scripts benefits include different pricing tiers that enable you to control cost based on the types of medications you select. In most cases, more than one drug is available to treat the same medical condition. Generic medications include the same active ingredients as brand-name medications, but cost less. Therefore, selecting a generic medication over a brand-name medication will generally result in you paying a lower copay or less out-of-pocket. Specific copay amounts are listed within the chart below.
Specialty Medications

Specialty Medications are available to treat serious medical conditions such as cancer or chronic health issues such as arthritis. Specialty drugs are injectable and non-injectable drugs which typically require frequent dosing adjustments, intensive clinical monitoring, intensive patient training, and require specialized handling and administration. These drugs are often complex and extremely expensive, which is why they are covered at the highest copay amount.

Mail Order Program

This home-delivery service allows you to purchase up to a 90-day supply of maintenance medications for the cost of two copayments, or 3-for-2 savings. In addition, the mail order program saves you trips to the pharmacy because prescriptions are delivered right to your door.  Mail order is a convenient, safe, and very cost-effective way to get your maintenance medications, it is mandatory after 4 retail fills. Your out-of-pocket costs will increase if you continue to fill a maintenance medication at retail after that.

Low Cost Generic Program Through Mail Order: You can get a 90-day supply of over 400 generic drugs for just $24 (the cost of a 30-day supply at a retail pharmacy).

You can also get a 3-month supply of maintenance medication at either the Express Scripts mail order pharmacy as you do now, or at a participating Walgreen's pharmacy. Find a location near you by logging into your Express Scripts member profile, click "Prescriptions" >"Find A Pharmacy".
